So why is Self-Improvement so important?

What does it even mean?

Self-Improvement is defined as

‘the improvement of one’s knowledge, status or character by one’s own efforts’.

Therefore it is a continuous process that cycles through our lives allowing us to maximise the tools and skills we have at our disposal at any particular moment.

If we ever consider ourselves to be the finished article and feel we no longer need to learn, we are highly unlikely to fulfil our true potential. Instead it is necessary to constantly re-assess ourselves with brutal honesty or risk failure.

However the key to this is not to analyse one area of our lives in isolation but instead all areas in a holistic manner. This is because there are clear linkages between various areas of our lives. If one area such as our health suffers, then its probable that our career and thus finances will suffer too. Similarly if we are having trouble at work, it would be unsuprising if our relationships suffered too.

I visualise the following key areas as glasses with liquid in. If I keep them all at the correct level, everything is fine. However if one glass loses too much liquid, all the others empty too. Those glasses have the following names,

  • Love and Relationships
  • Health and Fitness
  • Money and Finance
  • Spirituality
  • Career and Life Purpose

The reason I am confident that these are the areas which we need to focus on when it comes to Self-Improvement is because I devised them as a methodology I call ‘3 Steps 2 Freedom’ when recovering from Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) and subsequently re-building my life. It worked for me and the veterans I help on a daily basis and can work for you too.

No-body can say that they don’t need to improve in some area of their lives and even now, I know I can’t take anything for granted. It would be like building a car and driving it until the wheels fell off. You wouldn’t do that, you take it for services, repair things when needed and keep it well maintained. There’s no difference. We must do the same for ourselves.

Ultimately, this allows us to achieve far greater goals than if we just wing it and hope for the best. The beauty of the system I have devised is that it’s all there for you. You just work through it either as an on-line course or One-on-One with one of the coaches and as long as you can be brutally honest, you’ll find the answers you’ve always been looking for.
